Check reading, interaction and error recovery together. A personal accessibility trial can identify barriers, but it does not establish formal compliance for an entire app.
Check text at your normal display settings
Use your usual Android text and display size before opening the candidate. Read an exercise name, a nutrition value, its unit and any error message. Watch for cropped labels or values that disappear when the keyboard opens. An interface that accommodates the heading but hides the unit can still make a saved record hard to interpret or correct.
W3C accessibility guidance covers readable text, contrast and interaction, offering useful questions for this trial. Apply those questions to your tasks without declaring that a native Android app passes a web standard. Check bright and dim conditions you normally encounter. If the only readable view requires changing settings you otherwise rely on, record that as a meaningful compromise.
Check whether meaning survives without colour
Look at selected controls, validation errors and any distinction between planned and recorded information. Can you identify the state through words, shape or another cue as well as colour? A pale highlight may look attractive while providing little information in your environment. Compare the ordinary entry screen with its error state, since the important instruction may appear only after a mistake.
Use a companion checklist with separate findings for text, units and state changes. For example, you might note that the save action is visible but a required-field warning is hard to find. Keep examples specific enough for a support report. This is an observation about the version and device you tested, not proof that everyone will experience the same barrier.
Try the access method you depend on
If you use a screen reader, inspect control labels and focus order during a complete entry. If you rely on a particular input method, test it directly. Check whether you can move away from the numeric keyboard, reach the save action and understand confirmation. Large visible buttons alone do not establish that controls have useful spoken labels or a predictable navigation order.
Include correction in the trial. Enter a harmless test value, find it again and try editing it using your usual interaction method. Notice whether focus returns somewhere understandable after a dialog closes. You do not need an exhaustive audit to reject a candidate that blocks your essential task. Keep your existing records while a significant access requirement remains unresolved.
Choose by observed access rather than an assumed promise
Nexal offers free manual workout logging, custom workouts, history and manual meal and macro tracking on Android. Install through the official Google Play route and evaluate your essential task after setup. This guide does not certify Nexal accessibility or promise particular assistive-technology support. Treat your own reading and interaction checks as part of deciding whether the workflow suits you.
Classify findings as workable, workable with an acceptable adjustment, or blocked. Send specific questions through official support if a required interaction is unclear. Premium AI planning, macro estimates and barcode scanning should receive their own access checks if you intend to use them. Passing a free logging task does not establish that every paid screen is equally usable.
Try a complete free logging task with your usual access settings.

Frequently asked questions
Does a readable screenshot prove accessibility?
No. Test the complete task, including keyboard use, errors, corrections and your normal access method.
Does this checklist certify Nexal against WCAG?
No. It uses accessibility questions for personal evaluation, not a formal conformance assessment of the Android app.
